Hi Hughie,

Thank you so much for posting this picture. Cecily McAteer is my Aunty and I'm trying to piece together the family tree. Which doing from afar and will and not growing up knowing them in person or being given much info growing up makes it very hard. Regards Jenni

I knew Cecily well, and worked with her at Hunterston Power Station. Unfortunately, we lost Cecily about 40 years ago. She was married to a lovely guy called James and had 2 children I think.

Hi Meg,

I was about 11yrs old when Cecily died in 1980 and from what I remember is was due to complications during the childbirth of Claire. Cecily and James had another daughter Christine who was born in 1977.

Due to a huge family rift between my father Christopher and his mother Christine in 1965,I grew up without much knowledge of the McAteer's but seem to recall that my Grandfather Andrew McAteer also worked at the power station?

Regards
Jenni

Hi Jenni, it’s a long time ago, and I would need to check with my friend, but I think Cecily had a bleed in her brain that caused her very premature death. She really was a lovely girl - a heart of gold, and a pleasure to work alongside.

HI Meg,

Due to severely elevated blood pressure during the birth process a large clot on the brain occurred and this resulted in a non survivable stroke in the brain.

During my pregnancy I had spurts of elevated high blood pressure and had increased monitoring. In 2001 my father had a brain bleed, that thankfully was not as severe and he didn't have a stroke. Talking recently to a cardiovascular specialist, it's likely that there is a hereditary connection to the blood pressure and related conditions.

From memory my Grandfather Andrew died from a form of cancer and now knowing that Hunterston was a nuclear power plant, i'm wondering if there is a connection?

Regards
Jenni
