A Glance Ahead - By Bob Auld

A Glance Ahead

The winter has been so very long
I yearn to hear the lark
It's a dreary life without a song
When days are mostly dark.

Spring had seemed so far away
When I awoke this mom
Would this be just another day
I had learned to scorn.

Then out of the blue across the sky
The winds blew soft
Scowling clouds flew swiftly by
Away up there aloft.

The birds were in a merry mood
And sang to me in glee
Among the branches in Kerelaw wood
Of an old beech tree.

Perhaps it was to lift my heart
The sun began to shine
For nature has a cunning art
Sweet nature is divine.

To feel its warmth upon my face
I softly closed my eyes
My pulse I felt begin to race
My hopes begin to rise.

A promise this may only be
Of happier better days
Dreams don't always smile for me
Life's full of rugged ways.

So I have learned to make a store
Of memories such as these
I only have to stroll once more
Among these whispering trees.

The blues and greys of wayward days
Lights and shades of life
Tho here to there has vagrant ways
Mid many pools of strife.

At work or play we all may stray
In life's many strands
Always looking for that better day
And often better lands.
