Hi, I have been researching my family history for over 10 years now and naturally I am super drawn to the three towns. I wasn't born there but my mum was. I spent most my life in the three towns growing up and I have so much love for it. If someone asked me where I would call home, I would quite proudly say Ardrossan.
My mum was a Boyd from Clyde Terrace, Lawson Drive and Castle Road area's in Ardrossan. Her dad, John was born in Dalry as was most of his paternal family for at least a century before that. Iron Miners. :-) He moved to Ardrossan in the early 50's with her mum, Meg who was from Nottingham.
The Boyd's I am most interested in finding out about were my mum's immediate family; Peter, Joe, Christie, Joanie, Dot and William. My mum passed a long time ago now and if only I had asked enough questions (not that I would probably get any straight forward answers back) but for the purpose of how our family settled and the history surrounding our ancestors lives fascinates me.
My papa, John Boyd was allegedly a boxer or he boxed (one of the two). I have a few stories but nothing with any substance. If anyone knew the Boyd's, any of them - would love to hear from you. Other than that, I am just happy to be sifting through this site - it's a treasure trove of knowledge about the area and although I am a late comer to it - I hope it continues for a long time. Thank you for the acceptance.

Hello or hay ya’all as we say in North Carolina USA.
My name is Catherine Clark Morgan Smith. The Catherine Clark names also grace my daughter and her eldest daughter(age 4). As it did for my mother, her mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and my mother was told by her grandmother the name went back further generations. The custom has always been to use the name for the eldest daughter.
My great great grandmother came from Loch Lomond and her husband came from Stevenson. Her name was Catherine Clarke who married William McGhie. My great grandfather was Samuel Evans and his father was Issac Emmett Evans. Samuel married my great grandmother Catherine Clark McGhie. He migrated to America and she followed.
My mother spent many summers in Stevenson and Ayr. Her mother also spent many holidays and completed her first year of school there. My sisters and l were raised on stories about their cousins, aunts and uncles.
My husband attended the Air Force Academy and we met while he was in navigator training. He flew in the RF-4. He resigned, went to seminary and was recommissioned as a Presbyterian chaplain in the Navy. He retired and now is retired from employment with the states Department of Veterans Affairs. I have served as a RN specializing in healthcare regulatory enforcement. Also l am a Family Scientist focused on military families and gerontology. We have 3 children and 4 granddaughters. We are most assuredly Southerners as a family.
I hope we will have an opportunity to learn about the area, the history and learn about our ancestors. I look forward to meeting any one who would like to educate us, share a drink or meal.
