The Rabbie Burns
In good company you'll agree
Is where we often like to be
So if you care to laugh and jest
I'll tell you where to meet the best
Whistlers, singers and comic turns
You'll find them in "The Rabbie Burns"
But if you'd like to travel foreign
They request you take a walk to Arran
There you can get a right good nip
Half a glass of pure sheep dip
Water thins it down of course
It's apt to make a singer hoarse
Unless you're like the river Clyde
And need a good clean up inside
That's the stuff to make you stoat
Tho' I don't know the antidote.
But if you care for other ploys
Just step inside and meet the boys
There's cronies here of dubious fame
The penny chappin is their game
They make it very crystal clear
They're out to drink the blind man's beer
But if you're fit to haud you ain
It's sure to go against the grain
They'll aptly hing you wi' a double
And try to lead you into trouble
A count a count you'll hear one chant
Then he'll table the double blank
But if by chance you're maybe able
To keep yourself financially stable
You're sure to hear someone bleat
When you get into silver street
Then with a smile they'll all agree
It's time that you went home for tea.
But if you're up to other tricks
Davy's quite keen on the politics
And tho he's getting on in, years
He's just as keen on drinking beers
Maybe the union is your business
Then Tam's your man for astuteness
He'll play you up ready to gaff
As a last resort you're on the staff
A clear cut case and intimation
You can be wrong even in your station
But even if I've made you think
You did come in to buy a drink
And Lila's always near at hand
Nod your head it's like a wand
" Yes sir " what would you like
Thats the service for all alike
And ere you've time to sip your gill
Your money's safely in the till
The names I've mentioned are very few
But please don't get into a stew
Some will be pleased " In a fashion
If I haven't roused your passion
But a good time will be had by all
When we get rid of Mrs. Small
Don't take too sair my silly jokes
You're really all guid hearted folks
Minds and hands you usefully employ
Bless your hearts and bring you joy
As for me I'll just sit and rhyme
"Holy Sailor" is that the time.

Hi Josephine,
Bob Auld's son has a website at: http://www.biscit.da.ru/ but there isn't anything on it relating to his father - just a school photo of the son and a contact email address. Bob Auld (actually Bob Scott) lives down the bottom end of Stevenston near the Post Office. Some time ago through his son he gave me permission to publish his poems to threetowners.
I obtained the poems from a book I borrowed from Ann McAlpine ex Stevenston now here in Australia. Last entry in the book relates to long service awards at Ardeer March 5th, 1965. I believe Bob would now be in his nineties.
