Re: A wee bit o' Burns
She’s bow-hough’d, she’s hem-shin’d,
Ae limpin’ leg a hand breed shorter;
She’s twisted right, she’s twisted left,
To balance fair in ilka quarter;
She has a hump upon her her breast,
The twin o’ that upon her shouther:
Sic a wife as Willie had,
I wad na gie a button for her.

Re: A wee bit o' Burns
Just had to let you know how much "A wee bit of Burns" is appreciated.It's one of the first things I read every day and it gives me so much pleasure.I was lucky enough to learn about Burns in school but never really appreciated his genius until later in life .Thanks for "feeding" that appreciation by your posts! Kind regards!

Auld Neebor,
I’m three times doubly o’er your debtor
For your auld-farrant frien’ly letter;
Tho I maun say’t, I doubt ye flatter,
Ye speak sae fair.
*SECOND EPISTLE TO DAVIE

Re: A wee bit o' Burns
I'm giving the Immortal Memory this coming Saturday in Amsterdam.
I'll be using a lot of what I picked up from Masie Wade in St. Mick's, something I never thought I would need.
Looking forward to my haggis and tatties and neeps and the Scottish dancing afterwards.
I'll be taking it easy on the whisky though, as I've got to drive back.
JD.

Inspiring bold John Barleycorn,

This fruit is worth a’ Afric’s wealth,
To comfort us ‘twas sent, man;
To gie the sweetest blush o’ health,
An’ mak us a’ content, man.
It clears the een, it cheers the heart,
Maks high and low gude friends, man;
And he wha acts the the traitor’s part
It to perdition sends, man.

JD,
The thought was never in my heid but -
Whene'er to drink you are inclin'd,
Or cutty sarks rin in your mind,
Think! ye may buy the joys o'er dear:
Remember Tam o' Shanter' mare.

Guid advice, that many a man has rued no' taking!

And thou, my last, best, only friend,
That fillest an untimely tomb,
Accept this tribute from the Bard,
Thou brought from Fortune’s mirkest gloom.
*LAMENT FOR JAMES, EARL OF GLENCAIRN

Re: A wee bit o' Burns
Well PT - your quandary for the next 365 days is “should I continue?” (I think yes BTW) because TV for the 25th has STV at 8pm “digging deep into the STV vaults to explore the incredible legacy of our Scottish hero” - could that be REALLY old black and white reruns of John Cairney, There was a Man???) On BBC Phil Cunningham, Ali Bain et al are on stage in Titanic BELFAST having a musical celebration. As an aside - Glasgow Royal Concert Hall has a Danny Kyle Open Stage on the 25th as part of Celtic Connections.

I’m enjoying my daily Burns sessions, good to be reminded about our local Bard and his insight into human behaviour. Keep it up.
