ARDROSSAN ATHLETIC GAMES

A most successful series of sports, organised by the Crescent Football Club, took place at Plantation Park, near Ardrossan, on Saturday afternoon and drew together a large concourse of spectators.

No fewer than 28 events were placed upon the programme, and there were competitors present from Edinburgh, Glasgow, and various provincial towns.

Instead of the usual money prizes the committee purchased a large number of beautiful and useful articles in silver, etc.

The instrumental band of the 4th A.A.V. were present during the games and discoursed a variety of capital music.

At the close of the sports, Mr A. S. Aitken made a few remarks on the successful nature of the sports, and called upon Miss McCall, the Manse, to present the prizes.

FLOATING OF THE STRANDED STEAMER QUAIL

The large steamer, QUAIL, which was run on the east side of Ailsa Craig on Monday afternoon to prevent her foundering, was got off on Tuesday night, and arrived at the Tail of the Bank yesterday under steam.

The pumps which were brought from Ardrossan on the tug FLYING METEOR were at once put on the stranded steamer, and being found sufficient to reduce the water in the hold to enable her to float, it was resolved on the tide rising to get the vessel off and proceed to the Clyde.
