MISSIONARIES TO MOROCCO

A valedictory meeting with three young missionaries, who are being sent to Southern Morocco by the Ayrshire Christian Union, took place on Tuesday evening in the Free Church Hall, Saltcoats. There was a large attendance - Mr John Galloway of Kilmeny presiding.

Mr John Anderson, of the Ayrshire Christian Union, gave an interesting statement regarding mission work in Morocco. Afterwards the missionaries – Miss Reid, Catrine; Mr Richmond, Ayr; and Mr Muir, Dalry – gave addresses. They leave for Morocco at the end of next week, and mean to co-operate with Mr and Miss Nairn, who are carrying on mission work there.

A SALTCOATS DIVORCE CASE

Lord Young, in the Court of Session yesterday, heard evidence in an action by Ellen Aitken or Wilson, residing at Saltcoats, against her husband, John Wilson, some time plasterer at Wemyss Bay and Saltcoats, but whose present address is unknown.

The pursuer sought decree of divorce against her husband in, John Wilson, some time plasterer at Wemyss Bay and Saltcoats, but whose present address is unknown.

The pursuer sought decree of divorce against her husband in consequence of his malicious and wilful desertion.

The parties were married in 1860, and resided together for some time. In 1864 the defender left home without giving any notice of his intention to do so, and was absent for seven years. He had been abroad, but he returned in 1871, and resided again with his wife.

After staying with her for some time, he again left home, and the pursuer has not seen him since.

She stated that on going to the house in which he lodged while at Wemyss Bay she found a number of letters addressed to her husband by a young woman, and the statements contained in these letters led her to bring this action.

The pursuer said she advertised for her husband, but no notice had been taken by him of the advertisements.

The Lord Ordinary said that perhaps the man was dead. Counsel said they had heard of him about two years ago. His Lordship observed that the defender had plenty of tie to die since then, and that although newspapers circulated very freely in this world, he was not aware that they circulated at all in the next. There was no doubt, however, that the defender, if still alive, had deserted his wife, and if he was dead a decree of divorce would do him no harm.

His Lordship accordingly granted decree as craved.

ASSAULT

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday, CHARLES BAIN, Saltcoats, pled guilty to the charge of striking a merchant from Glasgow a blow over the region of the kidneys, in a railway carriage at Saltcoats, some time ago, and was fined in £2.
