Kate Bell - by Bob Auld

Post by Hughie »

She casts a spell does oor Kate Bell
That sets yer hert afire
Yet she's free 0 guile wae a cheery smile
And a member 0' the choir.
Her sausage meat is just a treat
As is her steak pies
Has a way that's twice at least as nice
As the twinkle in her eyes

Tae gain esteem as oor Dreghorn queen
You've got to be demure
And certainly blest wae that magical mist
Aye sparkling wae allure
Frae coast tae coast ye'll hear them boast
The bard ye did inspire
So hear the truth frae the bard's ain mooth
'I wish I had a lyre'

God bless ye Kate, and may a kindly fate
Nurse ye in its arms.
Gie ye health tae hell wae wealth
Tae go wae yer many charms
As time slips by keep young and spry
Let contentment be yer aim
and may skies of blue keep following you
Tae dazzle ye wae fame

Have lots of fun neath Africa's sun
As usual don't you fuss.
Gie the wains yer love ya auld turtle dove
But spare a drap for us.
If you've time auld hen tak up yer pen
And drap us aw a line
Here's aw the best enjoy ye're rest
Jist for auld lang syne

Hughie,

I enjoy Bob's poetry. I just wish I knew more of the people he wrote about.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Yes Penny, I've been hoping some of the names that come up will ring a bell (pun intended) and we'd get a further insight as to who they were. The Kate Bell poem would have been written no later than 1978.
