A Corner of Knockrivoch - by Bob Auld

Post by Hughie »

There's a corner of Knockrivoch farm
That's well within most people's reach
Where the air is full of nature's charm
And adorned with purple tufted veitch
The grass is long lush and green
Soft winds sigh thro restless trees
The sky, the bluest you've ever seen
Reflects on the distant murmuring seas

There's a corner of Knockrivoch farm
With a boundless seaward view
When the morn's born, clear and calm
And beguiled with sparkling dew
The Sleeping Warrior bedecked in white
Motionless clouds, anchored in blue
Drift thro day into molten night
To the plaintive call of a lone curlew

There's a corner of Knockrivoch farm
That can take away your breath
Fill your heart with dire alarm
As it did to a daughter of Heth
When a storm rolls up the Irvine vale
As the thunder and lightning clash
When trees bend to a sou' west gale
And the rain stings like a lash

There's a corner of Knockrivoch farm
That's entwined with hopes and dreams
Sunny days full of peaceful balm
And starlit nights magical gleams
With hazy views of Arran’s peaks
Wondrous rainbows that span the sky
Ower the hillsides ever blushing cheeks
As years of youth go passing by
