Lost Records 1849-1855

The Stevenston High Kirk records stop at 1849. Compulsory registration commenced 1855.
Where are the records 1849-1855?
Queries to National Records of Scotland, Ancestry, Family Research and Scotland's People give no answer to where they might be.
Rev James Cruikshank was the Minister - 1843-1880, and he features on many of the NIVEN family Stevenston records before the family moved to Kilwinning.
The wife of John Niven, Elizabeth AULD erected the memorial stone in the High Kirk churchyard, intimating that he died at the Stevenston Colliery 19 March 1851 - hence the search for the official records.
Apart from the records being hidden somewhere within the cupboards at the Stevenston High Kirk - has anyone any ideas about these lost records?
