Re: Happy days - The Isle of Man boats from Ardrossan

Alexmac
Another name, which I saw when in IOM was the Tynwald but do not
know if it was ever on the Ardrossan run. Pretty sure it was doing
trials at the time and also sure it was a ro-ro ferry and not the back
loading type.

Re: Happy days - The Isle of Man boats from Ardrossan

Yes Mitchy, I remember these sailings well, indeed I went on holiday in the last month of the steam packet sailings. It rained solidly for the whole week. The vessel we sailed on was the Lady of Mann and amazingly you sailed very close to Ailsa Craig. Fair Friday sailings at their peak would usually...

Re: Twins in the three towns

I have a twin sister who stays in S.Ireland. We are called
Lawrence & Lillian Montgomery and we stayed 4 houses
away from Sean & June in Sannox Drive, Saltcoats. Also
in our year at school were the Scollon twins, Moira & Jan.

Re: BMD & Files 22 September 2010

David, It's not a woman in the picture, it's in fact a young actor called Michael Cera who is appearing in a new film called Scott Pilgrim Vs the World. The reason for this is the Herald files this week is on page 38 and on page 37 is a page called what's on in and around Ayrshire and there is a sma...

Pretty sure this team were in the 70's who played in the amateur leagues, I'm
pretty sure there was also a team called Kilayr around the same time. No prizes
for guessing where they got their name from.

Re: Nicols Bar

Welcome to the board Returnofpuffer. I remember you well as i also worked in the Herald. Many a lunch time was spent in Nicols, having a pint with a bowl of the famous "soup of the year" as it was the same every day but still excellent, or a plate of chips with the gravy from the steak pie...

Re: Act against Harm

Canfactory, I think that's West Kilbride Main street as well.
Mitchy, I think the owners must have known because after
the footage was shot I saw some men power washing the
"graffiti" off the wall.

Re: A Stroll round 1960s Saltcoats

Was Mae's florists owned by a woman called Mae McNicholl or
Nicolsen? I'm pretty sure it was McNicholl who married a bank
manager called Gus Steele. Could this be a relation of the
grocer at no 46?

Hugh,
I know that this is off topic, but did you keep in touch with
Jim McKenzie? If so would you happen to know of any way
I could get in touch with the family as I went to school with
his son by the same name and I would dearly love to get in
touch with him.

Re: Three Towns 'Prefabs'

I can remember the prefabs in Saltcoats just as Mitchy says. I can also remember the electric houses being built to replace them as we used to play in them when the workers were away and the night watchman(watchie) used to chase us away. We also used to take the round inserts from the back boxes of ...
