My gran passed away recently. To say she had a good innings would be an understatement. She was 99. Born in 1909.

She went to school with Molly and Tom Weir. Her brother William, (my great uncle), a dedicated early recreational walker, often accompanied Tom Weir to Ayrshire when they were both young men. Irvine to Troon was a favourite but Ardrossan and Saltcoats was a must.

Tam Weir wasn't hugely famous, but he should have been. If he had been born earlier, I reckon he would have been a Muir or a Hutton.

My gran's name was Isa Morton nee Paterson (1909-2009). My great uncle was William Paterson, who was a few years younger.

The Teslarian,

I loved Tom Weir programmes on TV. He was so down to earth and a great communicatior. And I think the first book I ever read from cover to cover was "SHOES WERE FOR SUNDAYS" by Molly. A great wee read and reflection on an upbringing on the north side of Glasgow. I recommend it.

Wonder if anyone else remembers this, I was at the top of Glasgow street and watched Nikita Kruschev go past in a car convoy after he had visited Hunterston power station. Don't remember the year though.

Alex,

Niceto see you posting.

We had previously decided Kosygin had visited Hunterston and then drove through the three towns en route to Troon for lunch before attending a Kilmarnock -v- Rangers match at Rugby Park.

Did Kruschev definitely visit too?

This might be a new topic but thought I would through it in for a puzzle. Not famous, but possible infamous who lived in three towns.

I`ll start off by saying that a couple of years ago I was researching something totally unrelated to the three towns and recall coming across a reference to the fact that one of the conspirators in the Hitler assassination plot was
born in Montgomery St Ardrossan Can`t remember the name but thought it might intrigue some

I remember going to the Ingledeen to see the Humblebums - Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly - and I watched the recording of Tutti Fruiti when the Majestics were staying over at Elwood House before travelling to Arran on their "world tour!" - Richard Wilson, Katy Murphy, Robbie Coltrane, Emma Thompson, Richard Wilson, and Maurice Roeves were all there. Lulu also appeared at the Ingledeen with the Lovers - missed that one, I was underage!
