Well spotted Chris, It was getting bulldozed and I didn't have film for my camera, so done the next best thing. It must have been about 30 years ago. ?

Watercolour started out as sketches for the 'real' painting to be done later in the studio. It's only fairly recently they've come into their own.
I picked up a couple of lovely ones when I was home in '94. A young woman was painting them in a shopping arcade in Glasgow. She had several displayed and I got to chatting with her and bought two. She said business had been slow and she was just thinking it was time to pack up. In that weird way of things, just because someone (me) was buying several people stopped and had a look, by the time I left half a dozen or so were looking...I hope she got more sales! :D

That's lovely, L.P.
I think the point of the watercolour sketch was to capture not only the scene but the light etc., at the time. However, getting a drawing allows the imagination to decide on the light, time of day...

Morag I couldn't agree more, but I seem to have a mental block when trying to work with watercolours. The sketch I posted was only a section of my intended project, at home I can let the imagination run riot .

I think it may be taken from the path at the school field looking down towards where you stay LP?

If that's the case it would be the Chemical row. But i don't recognise it as I remembered it.
I recall it consisted of a row of terraced cottages with, I think a clock tower in the middle.
There was one house still occupied across from the cottages, which was nicknamed the ponderosa.

Chriso, I left out part of the sketch as it would have been too obvious ( The castle). I'm sure you must have pulled your boat in to Portencross.
