I see the new ferry has been named Glen Sannox and will come into service next year.

Tom, I can shut my eyes and remember the sound and, more importantly remember the smell, on the Glen Sannox III. It was a mix of hot oil and paint and smoke - loved that ferry. It meant holidays - camping in Glen Rosa, primus stove dinners, midgies, campfires, hired bikes from the Mini Golf Cafe, someone with a guitar playing, going to the farm house for milk, adults drinking beer and singing ....

Wonderful memories.

Camping in glen rosa and what a dicey place that was ,the burn often burst its banks and flooded the camp site.

Never experienced anything like that - just a beautiful environment and a great burn to play in as a wean.

We went with the Girls Brigade to Arran. Think it may have been Lamlash. Can still picture the log cabin we stayed in.

I remember deciding to go exploring only to wind up sinking into marshland in my snow white socks (no longer white when they got me back out).

Those were the days....

I well remember the Glen Sannox arriving and departing from Brodick during the summer months in the mid to late 70's.
The main Ardrossan to Brodick ferry at that time was the 'Caledonia'
A visit to here - https://www.revolvy.com/topic/MV%20Glen ... type=topic - jogged my memory as to why I often seen Glen Sannox down at Brodick pier back in those days ... she had by then become one of CalMac's Cruise vessels and paid a weekly visit to Arran every Wednesday.

Quite fitting that the new ferry will be named after the old Lady - and here's a short nostalgic video of her past glory days.

Edit: I've updated the link above to provide more direct access to the main story.

Does the Ardrossan/Troon saga still have legs?

Tom
your camping in glen Rosa sounds so familiar, we done all of those things but we camped at Corrie so no bicycles for hire. And yes the wee "Mann burn" did burst its banks and washed us out. But that was back in the day's of Glen Sannox ii.
