MUNICIPAL MEETING – SALTCOATS

Provost McIsaac presiding.

It was agreed to erect a lamp on the old railway at the back of Quay Street.

A proposal was made that a lamp be put up at the road leading to Cuthbertson’s factory. The Provost objected on the ground that it was private property. It was agreed to erect the lamp, the Provost dissenting.

This had me stumped for a while. Countess Street becomes Quay Street from the intersection at Dockhead Street and continues toward the harbour - Don't know about Cuthbertson's factory?

So they must have been talking about the local railway that developed during the transport of coal to the harbour for shipping to Ireland. See the topic: Saltcoats - The old railway to the harbour
