Can you make the connection?
I'm probably insulting you intelligence. The two images connect an event.

I would guess, the Highland Clearances. And I have a feeling that castle at the top is the seat of the Duke of Sutherland who perpetrated the most notorious of them.

Well done Down South. The castle is Dunrobin, the seat of the dukes of Sutherland - one of the prime movers in the Clearances. There is an element missing from the abandoned croft - sheep. I have been back several times hoping to find some sheep grazing there but no luck so far. The croft is on the Cabrach - a high moor stretching from Rhynie in the east to Dufftown in the west. It's a lot like Fairlie moor but higher and the road across it (A941) is one of the first to close when there is snow.

Retsum, I was away on the wrong track. I thought the connection was " divorce " the first photo was before, the second was after.

BTW, that second image has such sorrow all around it. Can almost "touch" it.

I agree, Viv. With that image in mind consider listening to my favourite Scottish lament here on threetowners. I'm playing it on my moothie at the end of the month in the local old folks home. The tune was used in that great documentary on the American civil war but I feel it could have been used equally well on a documentary of the Highland clearances.VivAyrshire wrote:BTW, that second image has such sorrow all around it. That is a lovely lament. And yes... Definitely suited to this pitiful, sad place.

I would take it on as well, funnily enough. Isolated spot in the middle of nowhere. not sure how happy you would be there though.
