Actually all newspapers make mistakes and you often see apologies and retractions. However I will try to watch my punctuation in future.

SEVERE STORM
GABLE KNOCKED DOWN AT STEVENSTON

Yesterday morning, during the gale, a strong gust of wind knocked down the gable of a new two-storey dwelling-house which had been erected at the head of Schoolwell Street, and was just about completed.

The falling material went right through the roof of the adjoining house, which was tenanted. Fortunately, the people were out at the time, or the consequences might have been serious. As it was, the furniture was damaged.

Hi Siamese,
If I had stopped for a moment, I could have figured that out for myself. Sorry. :(

SCOTTISH PITS IDLE

Stevenston:

About 700 miners employed at Auchenharvie and Ardeer Collieries, Stevenston, left work yesterday.

A section of the furnaces of the Glengarnock Iron and Steel Company at Ardeer have been damped down and work suspended.

The police, as in all Ayrshire towns, have made arrangements for the protection of property by preparing a list of special constables for service should they be required.

SCHOOL BOARD – STEVENSTON

This board met on Monday night – Rev. John Grahame presiding.

A letter was read from the Education Department as to Kyleshill School, recommending that the school should be graded in relation to Stevenston Public School, and all children above the third standard excluded.

After discussion, Mr McIsaac moved that a new school be built in Saltcoats. Mr Cumming proposed an amendment that the Board adopt the recommendation of the Education Department.

It was ultimately agreed to delay consideration of the matter to a special meeting.

The scheme of administration of the Smith Bequest was laid on the table. The governing body is to be the School Boards of Stevenston and Kilwinning, with one of the present trustees in each parish.

£80 yearly is to be expended in paying school fees of poor and deserving children who have passed the third or higher standards, and whose parents, not being in receipt of parochial relief, require aid in providing education for their children.
