EXTRAORDINARY OUTRAGE

Early on Tuesday morning four men, with blackened faces, knocked on the door of Janet Dalziel, who resides by herself in a small house in Schoolwell Street, Stevenston. They gained admission, and proceeded to attack the woman. She was knocked down, kicked and maltreated, so that she was rendered insensible.

The noise made by the men aroused a woman who lives next door, and she came to see what the matter was. The man who was nearest to her covered his face with his jacket to prevent his identification.

A man who lives near came on the scene with a gun, and threatened to us it if the men did not leave the place. An attempt was made to get the gun from him, but after a scuffle the men went away.

It was found that the woman was lying on the floor insensible. She was lifted into bed and attended to by the neighbours. Her eyes were blackened, her face and body bruised, and one of her fingers badly cut.
