THE STORM

Stevenston:
A considerable part of the strong fencing enclosing the ground of the Thistle Football Club was levelled to the ground.

The streets of the town bore traces of the severity of the gale, slates and chimney cans lying about in all directions.

EXPLOSIVE FACTORY ACCIDENT
FIVE WORKERS HURT AT ARDEER

Five workers were injured in an explosion, described by an official as “not severe,” which occurred yesterday at the explosives factory of Imperial Chemical Industries at Ardeer, Ayrshire.

Cathie Douglas, (24), 20 Kirkhall Drive, Ardrossan (face and arm burns), and Annie Burgess, (45), 20 Allan Square, Irvine (face injury), were taken to the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, where their condition last night was stated “not critical”.

The three other injured workers were able to go home after receiving treatment at the factory.

WIFE ASSAULT

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday, WILLIAM BEATTIE, senior, brusher, Ardeer Square, Stevenston, pleaded guilty to having on the 11th instant, assaulted his wife, Martha Hughes or Beattie, by kicking her on the body and right hand.

He had been previously convicted. Sentence of £3, or 30 days’ imprisonment was passed.

STEVENSTON THISTLE v. SALTCOATS VICTORIA
At Stevenston

Five minutes from start Saltcoats put the ball in through a scrimmage, scoring first goal. Thistle pressed, but without result, up to half-time. They were allowed a penalty (owing to a Victoria player fisting out the ball, but there was no result, the ball going over the bar.

On changing ends Thistle continued with pressure, and within ten minutes had scored two goals. A third goal was disallowed on the plea of offside. Thistle had the best of the play in the second-half, and were often before their opponent’s goal but Rodger, the goalkeeper, on several occasions, saved cleverly.

Result – Thistle, 2; Victoria, 1.

WIFE ASSAULT

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday – before Sheriff Hall – ROBERT HAMILTON, miner, Boglemart Street, Stevenston, was charged with having, on 12th instant, assaulted his wife by striking her on the face and breast with his fists and threatening her with a poker.

He pleaded guilty, and having been previously convicted, was fined in £3, or 30 days imprisonment.

At the annual let of pasture lands on Kerelaw estate there was a good turnout of farmers, but on the whole there was a slight falling off in prices compared with last year.
