GLASGOW HERALD
4 JULY 1883
ARDROSSAN – NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING
On Monday night a boy called HUGH GRAY, about five years of age, while amusing himself with a fishing line at the quay wall, was pushed over by another boy. The tide at the time was nearly full, and the little fellow was in imminent danger.
Mr. WILLIAM BOYD, merchant, happened to see the crowd collected and at once proceeded to the spot. Divesting himself of coat and boots he jumped into the water, and got hold of the boy, who was pulled up by means of a line.
Though the boy was ten minutes in the water he seemed none the worse of his dip, and was able to walk home.
It is worthy of note that this is the fifth life Mr. Boyd has saved since he came to Ardrossan.

GLASGOW HERALD
5 JULY 1873
ARDROSSAN PAROCHIAL BOARD
The monthly meeting of this board was held in Saltcoats on Thursday evening. Dr. Marshall presided.
The following registration statistics were submitted:-
NEW ARDROSSAN
Births, 88; deaths, 36; marriages, 13 – total 137.
OLD ARDROSSAN
Births, 48; deaths, 37; marriages, 21 – total 106.
In reference to the subject of burial accommodation, the Inspector reported the substance of an interview he had with Lord Eglinton’s factor, Mr. Stewart. He had made inquiries as to securing additional ground contiguous to the Cemetery. Mr. Stewart expressed an opinion that at least two acres of ground could be got from Lord Eglinton contiguous to the Cemetery, at a rate of about £200 per acre.
With regard to the Cemetery, Mr. Stewart thought the better would be for the Board to make arrangements to get quit of the feu-duty by paying a sum equal to about 25 years purchase.
Mr. Guthrie moved, “That it be remitted back to the committee to report,” which was agreed to.
