STORMY VOYAGE TO ARDROSSAN

Yesterday morning the barque ASSYRIA, Christiania, arrived at Ardrossan in a dangerously waterlogged condition.

The ASSYRIA left Saguenay, Canada, for Ardrossan on 2nd September, with a cargo of spoolwood. She met with very bad weather on the voyage.

On the morning of Monday, 9th September, the vessel sprang a leak, and at times she made from 12 to 14 inches of water per hour.

On the morning of Sunday, 15th September, PETER HANSEN, an able seaman, fell from the jib-boom into the sea, and was drowned.

Both officers and crew have shown considerable pluck in bringing the ASSYRIA into port. She lies in the Eglinton Dock with a heavy list to the port side.
