ARDROSSAN DOCKERS’ STRIKE
The position is unchanged. The non-union labourers who have replaced the men on strike have hitherto been paid by the hour; today, it is understood, they begin work at so much a ton, the rate presumably being the same as that paid the strikers before the dispute began.
The Harbour Company have carefully refrained from accentuating the difference between them and the men on strike, and several of the latter have found work in other departments on the harbour not affected by the present dispute.
The feeling in the town is that a settlement of the dispute is not far distant.

ARDROSSAN DOCKERS’ STRIKE
The position here is unchanged. The men declare themselves perfectly willing to confer with the Harbour Company, but assert that the company must make the first move in this direction.
The harbour management state that non-union labour is plentiful, and the resolution with which they began the strike is unaltered.

The bazaar was opened yesterday by the Lady Sophia Montgomerie. Rev. J. D. McCall, minister of the congregation, who presided explained his occupation of the position by stating that he had written to Sir William Arrol, who asked to be excused on account of a prior engagement of a similar character in Girvan. Mr. McCall announced that the drawings for the previous day amounted to £350, and concluded by introducing Lady Sophia as a daughter of the late Earl of Eglinton. They were delighted, he said, to have her residing in the neighbourhood – namely Southannan House – for the greater part of the year.
The Lady Sophia commended the object of the bazaar, and declared it open.
