ARDROSSAN SCHOOL BOARD
A letter from the teacher of Ardrossan Public School was read stating that measles had nearly ceased amongst the children attending the school.
Cooking classes are to be commenced in Saltcoats shortly, and to continue during the winter months.
The Ardrossan officer reported the average attendance at Ardrossan during the month to be 357 or 66 per cent at the public school.
At Saltcoats Public School it was 519 or 80.5 per cent.

MASON’S STRIKE AT ARDROSSAN
Last week there seemed a prospect of the strike terminating, as two of the master builders conceded the advance asked for by the men, and work was to be resumed.
These two masters have again signified their intention of placing the men on the old footing their employees have struck work, and their attitude is as uncompromising as before.

Yesterday morning about half-past seven the body of a woman named REID, aged 70 years, was found on the beach at Montgomerie Crescent, Saltcoats.
She left her sister’s in Montgomerie Street, Ardrossan, on Saturday forenoon, and is supposed to have committed suicide.

The body of a woman named GORDON, wife of a labourer, was found in Ardrossan harbour yesterday afternoon at half-past four. She was last seen alive at ten o’clock on Saturday night, when she went a message with a jug in her hand.
She is supposed to have fallen over the quay in the darkness, and the floating jug called attention to the whereabouts of the body.
She was aged about 30.

ARDROSSAN SCHOOL BOARD
The usual monthly meeting of this board was held yesterday afternoon. In the unavoidable absence of Provost Barr, Mr. J. L. Bailey, banker, presided.
It was agreed to hold a meeting on Monday first to deal with a defaulting case.
The clerk reported that he had arranged with the teachers to open evening classes for the elementary branches and for science and art. The teachers were to draw the fees and grant and relieve the board of expenses.
Mr. Comrie, teacher of No. 2 School, reported that the attendances of the majority of the scholars was very regular, and that a considerable number were taking advantage of the higher subjects.

MUNICIPAL MEETING – ARDROSSAN
The Clerk read a letter from the Secretary for Scotland intimating that the total valuation of the burgh was £23,564, and that the sum payable to the burgh £68 16s 3d. Last year the grant amounted to £54, which was applied to the relief of the public health rate as applying to the whole burgh. It was agreed to devote this year’s grant to the same purpose.
The Clerk intimated that the Commissioners who retire in November are Bailie Gilfillan and Messrs Barrie and Dunwoodie
