ARDROSSAN COURSING CLUB

This old-established club is the first to lead off the season in Scotland.

The wonderfully fine weather that has prevailed, especially on the West Coast, had so advanced harvest operations that all the grain over the lands usually coursed, was safely housed nearly a month ago, and the committee felt themselves justified in bringing forward their fixture from October to September.

Unfortunately in doing so they have inadvertently fallen foul of the Fast Day in Ardrossan, but as some parts of the lands lie in adjoining parishes, it is meant to confine operation the first day to the outside, and finish up on Thursday over the rest of the estate.

The entry secured numbers twenty-six for the St. Leger, and fifteen for the Castle Stakes, the only one in the former known to fame being BANNERMAN, who ran and won on courses in Ireland last week.

ARDROSSAN FREE CHURCH

A meeting of this congregation was held on Monday night, presided over by the Rev. W. MacKenzie, West Kilbride, moderator.

The object of the meeting was to elect a minister for the church, rendered vacant by the death of the Rev. John Stewart. The Selection Committee agreed to place before the members the names of the Rev. Alexander Gray, Torrance of Campsie, and the Rev. William Jamieson, Edinburgh.

On a vote being taken there voted for the former 46 and for the latter 33, the numbers showing less than half of the total membership.

It was then intimated that the Rev. Gray had been duly elected, and there being no dissent, a deputation, consisting of Messrs Peele (elder), Harvey and James Dickie (members), was appointed to appear before the Presbytery in support of the finding.
