ARDROSSAN PAROCHIAL BOARD
The monthly meeting was held in Saltcoats Town Hall on Thursday evening – Doctor Brown presiding.
The inspector reported that the sum in bank, to credit of the Board amounted to £261, the amount at the corresponding time last year being nil.
Mr. Ingram proposed that the inspector should write the Board of Supervision regarding the following: -
“Whether landlords of small tenants under £4 of rent were bound to collect the school rate from such tenants; and in the event of non-payment by the tenants, whether the landlords would be held responsible for the rates.”
After some discussion the Board declined to take any action.

GLASGOW HERALD
5 OCTOBER 1872
ARDROSSAN PAROCHIAL BOARD
The Ardrossan Parochial Board met on Thursday evening in Saltcoats Town Hall – Mr. James Fullerton presiding.
Messrs Fullerton and Marshall were re-appointed auditors. The Inspector remarked that very probably by next year, under Mr. Craufurd’s Poor Law Bill, a public auditor would be appointed.
The Appeal Courts were fixed for the 21st and 22nd November.
The Inspector stated that the Board had been called upon to deal with four new cases of insanity within the last few months – a very large increase, certainly, considering the size of the parish.

The annual meeting has just been held. From the report of the proceedings we are glad to learn that the late Miss M. Miller, Arran Place, Ardrossan, has bequeathed the handsome sum of £100, the interest of which will be applied to the general purposes of the society.
[A Dorcas Society is a local group of people, usually based in a church, with a mission of providing clothing to the poor. They are named after Dorcas, a person described in the Acts of the Apostles – Wikipedia.]

GLASGOW HERALD
5 OCTOBER 1874
THE STORM
The severe gale which broke out late on Thursday night continued on Saturday with great violence. Indeed, the storm is described by channel-going steamers as being one of unusual severity; and fears are expressed that shipping casualties may yet be reported in connection therewith.
ARDROSSAN:
Here, as elsewhere, we have experienced the full fury of the gale, which has raged incessantly since Friday, and up to Saturday night, and posted no signs of abatement.
We have heard of no damage worth reporting, but judging on the appearance of the sea, which shows one sheet of foam, casualties at sea must have been numerous.
The Arran steamer ROTHESAY CASTLE sustained some slight damage to her galley on Friday, and on Saturday did not attempt her usual morning and evening runs.
