SALTCOATS – PROPOSED NEW TOWN HALL

At a special general meeting of the trustees of the proposed new halls – Mr James Fullerton presiding – a letter was read from the burgh Commissioners inquiring as to the conditions upon which the ground was offered for a site for a new town hall in Countess Street.

It was unanimously agreed to offer the site as a free gift, and request an answer to be given within 30 days.

The trustees paid about £500 for the site; and have £300 in the bank.

A proposal by Mr Fullerton was agreed to, that the Young Men’s Christian Association get a site for a hall facing Green Street with the £300 in hand. The remainder of the ground, valued at about £400, is offered as a free gift to the Commissioners for the purpose of a building a town hall.

Until the matter is settled, the Young Men’s Christian Association are unable to take any action for the erection of their hall.
