SALTCOATS – FORMATION OF A DEAN OF GUILD COURT

The Commissioners at a special meeting unanimously resolved to institute a Dean of Guild Court for the burgh, to consist of the Provost and three Commissioners, two a quorum.

The Commissioners appointed with the Provost were Bailie Miller, Dr. Campbell, and Commissioner Duncan – the Court to commence as from the date of the meeting.

" The Golden Voyage of Sinbad " ( all week ) includes all the fanciful, bizarre and romantic elements of the fabulous Arabian Nights tale. A one-eyed Centaur fights with Sinbad , and other wondrous creatures in the film include a griffin, a ship's figurehead that springs to life, a sword-fighting six-armed statue, and an evil dwarf, all of which stand in Sinbad's path. John Phillip Law plays Sinbad, with Caroline Munro as the slave girl, and Tom Baker as the villainous sorcerer bent on the destruction of Sinbad and his crew.

Two foreign films will be shown as a double feature programme all next week - the main picture being " Swinging Stewardesses " and the support " Sexy Sinners ". Both Swedish productions for adults only audiences, these films deal realistically with amorous adventures - with some amusing incidents thrown in .

" You Only Live Twice " , showing all week, is a James Bond film which is an intriguing story with plenty of action, mystery and girls. Sean Connery stars again as Bond in this Ian Fleming thriller dealing with a crime syndicate which intercepts space capsules to provoke a third world war. As usual 007 wins through in the end.

His only friend in the world is a little mouse, and the unusual feature of the funny little elephant is that his ears are so large he can fly. Great entertainment for the kids. It is supported by another Disney film, " Napoleon and Samantha ".

The annual match between these clubs was played on Friday night on Dalry green, four rinks a-side, Dalry winning by 41 shots.

Result – Dalry, 80; Saltcoats, 39.

Six rinks each from these clubs met on Saltcoats green on Tuesday evening to play the annual match. The weather was unfavourable, being very wet, and a short game of 17 heads was played with the following result –

Ardrossan, 92; Saltcoats, 91.

KILMARNOCK AND AYR U.P. PRESBYTERY

A meeting of the Presbytery was held in Darlington Place Church Hall yesterday – Rev. Mr. Dalrymple, Tarbolton, moderator.

The call to Mr. J. B. Scott, B.D., from Saltcoats (West) congregation was sustained.

Mr. Scott, who was present, intimated his acceptance of the call, and the ordination was fixed to take place on 5th August, the Rev. Thomson, Girvan, to preach and the Rev. Mr. Morris, Dalry, to preside and ordain.
