The (Old) Argyle was on the Kyleshill in Canal Street across the road from the Sunset Cafe.

SALTCOATS PARISH CHURCH

The annual social meeting was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening – Rev. Mr. Rossie Brown presiding.

The chairman gave an encouraging statement as to the affairs of the congregation, and stated that the building fund of the new church now amounted to £500.

Revs. W. Lee Ker, Kilwinning; J. L. Fyfe, Dalry; and J. D. McCall, Ardrossan, afterwards gave excellent addresses.

There was a capital musical performance.

THE ROYAL MARRIAGE – THE MARQUIS OF LORNE AND H.R.H. PRINCESS LOUISE

Saltcoats:
The only move made here was by the Good Templars, who got up a procession, which, however, in point of numbers, turned out a failure.

In the evening the same body held a concert and ball in their own hall, which attracted large numbers.

The shops closed during the latter part of the day.

SALTCOATS – PUBLIC PARK

The Commissioners have purchased a field on Parkend lands, the property of Mr. William Wyllie, the Border, for a public park.

It is intended to feu part of the ground, and the rest will be used for purposes of recreation. The ground lies east of Old Raise Road, adjoining the Caledonian Railway, and extends to Auchenharvie Plantation.

The price is £3200, or about £125 per acre.

The nominations of candidates in burghal parishes for election as members of Parish Councils was made yesterday. Candidates have till tomorrow afternoon at four o’clock to withdraw their names.

The polling takes place on Tuesday.
