Dalry bypass

Post by Bruce »

Footage showing the construction of the new Dalry bypass. Music’s a bit annoying...but you can turn that down!

Hi Bruce any more water falling from the sky and it may be better to make a canal. Thanks for the update.
Is there a drawing or sketch showing intended route compared to the existing road available for public viewing?

It starts about half way between Dalry and Beith, near The Den and “Graze” restaurant. The first bit is just a widening and straightening of the road.

At Highfield (where the cycle path crosses the main road) there will be a junction, with the new road heading to the left. It runs round the east of Dalry, between the town and the Blair Estate.

It then crosses the railway line and the Garnock, meeting the existing Dalry-Kilwinning road at Monkcastle, about a mile outside the town, near the car auction site. (which some may remember as the mushroom factory, and others may remember as the Douglas Brickworks)

Sorry folks, but this is as clear as mud.
Like Meekan I would like a simple map of the existing situation with a superimposed line of the new bypass.
Why do people need to make things complicated with all the new-fangled technology instead of drawing a simple outline which gives a clear picture of the situation?

This is the Beith to Dalry via the den. NOT the bus route Beith ,Glengarnock,Garden City,Dalry.Main bus route will be affected at the new road joining the Dalry to Kilwinning main bus route. It goes around the back off Dalry and does not effect normal bus route.

Thanks Bruce.
I can relate to that. Don't forget, I've been away for 45 years, and details are more than a wee bit hazy.

It's a pity they couldn't go a wee bit further and redo the Saltcoats -Dalry road which is in a terrible state with huge potholes and consequent puddles which are of great danger on such a tight, busy road.

All local road surfaces are a disgrace since local authorities took them over. The cold weather is getting the blame, wonder if the weather was better when Strathclyde council looked after the roads?

The saltcoats-dalry road is actually closed for the next 5 days for repairs. Not sure where.

They’re also supposed to be re-aligning the bit in the middle with the bad bends - about a mile of road.

However, NAC are apparently pressing for the whole road to be upgraded to trunk status.
