With you Bonzo!! Proud to admit I was one of the "originals" who frequented the Melbourne in the sixties! The summer of '66 was particularly memorable with my Lambretta, mirrors and all! Some of the "names" were Craig Nellany,Johnny Hunter,John Lafferty ,Tam McAteer et al.We never had any problem with the "rockers" and their magnificent Triumphs,Nortons etc. Nowadays I ride a Honda Shadow and if I had the space I would have that TV175 I lusted after in those days!
As an aside, we used to spend a lot of time in Manchester at, the real birthplace of Northern Soul ,The Twisted Wheel. But that's another story!!

O/T for scooterites
For years Dennis Nelson had a Wal Philips Fuel Injector in his window, around a fiver only to change when demonisation came in and then VAT,
Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles built a scooter( his first build) and took it to a Hells Angel's bike show, and got second place,

God stivis I remember the lammy scooter exile very well totally changed the way people looked at scoots. Think Russell ended up raffling it at a rally.

Big Sanny my time was a bit after yours I've had scooters since the early 80s never been without one although I don't do rallies anymore. Always been vespas for me still have a gts 250. It's a pity that you don't have your TV anymore, them and SXs are worth a fortune.

Lambrettas had a better gear change or more accurately the Vespa cabling was mince,
Scomadi make replica Vespas but with Lambretta paint colours
There a quite a few Chinese manufactures of Scooters most with Honda type engines and close cousins of the Vespa/Piaggo/Lambretta

While out a wander a Replica looking very 60s came towards me ,what blew the illusion was the engine sound, 4 stroke Honda type, and not over mixed 2 stoke polluting everywhere
and to go O/T
What is it with folk riding crotch rockets with tee shirts?
