On my usual dog walk round ardeer this morning I came across these 2 iron frames embedded in concrete. The broader part looks as though it could have been a roller, so I'm thinking they might have been used to pass the rope through, to raise the barrage balloons that were used to protect Ardeer Factory from air raids during the war, but thats only a guess.
I also noticed that there were almost no seagulls about which is very unusual as every time I walk there there are hundreds, especially at the sewage treatment plant, and on the tarmac where the old nitrocellulose storage drums were kept.
There were none on the beach either.Kind of Alfred Hitchcockian.

Re: Ardeer Factory
I remember these concrete things with the metal loop from my childhood. My father said they were for the barrage balloons.
