Stevenston High- List of teachers as I recall

Not comprehensive but as much as I can remember. Here goes.....

"Pipe" Banks Chemistry
Ronnie Payne Physics
"Auld Miz" Milne Latin (Real old timer!!)
Joyce Clark French (Fancied her like hell........)
Miss McLeod French (Her as well!!!)
Mrs Wilson Maths (Used to call her Mrs Woolf....much to her chagrin!!)
Mr Davis Maths (A wee bit different!! We called him P**f Davis)
Mr Hutcheson??? Maths (Englebert Humperdinck lookalike!!)
Mr Molloy Maths (Complete nutter with the belt!!)
Miss Gaw English
"Aggie" Collins History/Geography
"Dopey" MacDonald English
Mr Dunlop Geography? (Known as All Dun!!)
Lex Dunlop Maths?? (Another nutter with the belt)(I've got a story about that.. maybe for later!!)
"Spud" Thompson Tech Drawing
"Skimp" Fraser Woodwork
Jimmy Robson Tech Drawing / Woodwork
Andy Walker Gym/Sports
Ian Proctor Music (Boys) Hmmmm
Miss Donaldson Music (Girls)
"Nobby" Clark Art
Willie Armstrong Art ( brand new belt, never used much.....Arghhhh!!!!)
Mr Bonner Physics (Young guy drove a large motorcycle...cult hero!!)
Mr McPhee?? Tech Assistant for Physics / Chemistry

HM was RJ Stratton for the first years then Charles Wilson at the tale end.

That's about it as I can manage.

I was there '66 to '70. Any other memories gratefully received for that era.

Reputations, your right Gooyy Malloy a sicko who belted as much as he could. He became the headmaster of Glencairn primary school and died I believe at the age of 57.

Great List, I started to research into teachers that moved from here to the new Auchenharvie in 1970 and many have i have a lot of info on some of these teachers when they died and if they moved to auchenharvie hope you like this.

Mr Stratton - Died 1989, Aged 85
Miss Gaw - Died 1987 in Argyll Aged 87
Mr Dunlop - Died 1994 Aged 88, His son went on to Auchenharvie as AHT, then Garnock ACD as a Depute Head then Head Teacher in Blairgowie
Mr Banks - Died 1981 - Aged 73 From Stevenston
Mr Collins - Died in 1991 in Largs (went to Auchenharvie)
Mr Armstrong - Died Last Year aged 74 he was at Auchenharvie
Mr Proctor - First Head of Music at Auchenharvie He Retired in 1978 and Died in 2001 Aged 87
Miss Donaldson - went to Auchenharvie - Retired in 1990 still alive aged 90 living in Largs
Mr Walker - First Head of the PE Department At Auchenharvie Died in 1998
Mr Robson - Went to Auchenharvie later Retired in 2002 still living in Kilmarnock
Charlie Wilson became Head Teacher of Auchenharvie in 1970 Retired in 1980 and Died in 1993 in Isle of Man,
Miss Clark - French In a Nursing Home now, Retired From Auchenharvie in 1986
Mr Payne - Physics - Retired Auchenharvie in 1986 Still Alive

Miss Joyce Clark - I see has just died, she was a fomer stevenston higher grade teacher and then on to Auchenharvie Academy

There was a Mr Dorian in the early 60's taught maths

There was a Hugh MCmahon who taught history in 1964 and a chap called Ian Snead who was a technical teacher.

I went to school with Hugh McMahon, he later became a MEP

He did indeed Madge and I impressed him no end with my knowledge of the first world war. He must have found it refreshing that someone at that school did their own research. Mind you I would have been better out playing football.

Yesterday I had an enjoyable afternoon in the pub and the subject got round to the teachers at the higher grade. This chap who is more than a decade older than me still remembers the gym teacher and how one day he had forgotten his gym pants and he was made to take gym running around with his bare bottom. Of course wouldn't happen to-day.

was this 1960s

I remember being at school in the 1990s and some boys if they forgot shorts had to do PE in underwear but like you said after the year 2000+ wouldn't be allowed,

am looking to find out more about Stevenston higher grade teachers of the 1960s for a family member who started there in 1960,

Hey Boots I it was in the 1950's and the gym teacher is still alive.

many of the staff in 1969 left and went on to the new Auchenharvie Academy
I remember staff from there that moved on,

Alistair Aitken head is in Arran am I correct Born 1921 -
