The death occurred suddenly on Saturday at his home in London of Jack Lambert a well known Ardrossan man.Mr Lambert, who was in his early seventies, was a member of the cast of the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Players' Club's production of "The Old Lady Shows Her Medals," which, in 1928, won the Scottish, British and World championships for a one-act play. He accompanied the Players on their trip to America to win the world title and took part in the club's successful tour of Britain on their return. Shortly afterwards he took up acting as a profession, and met with success on the stage, films, radio and television. As a young man he worked as a plumber in the family business and he was one of the founder members of Ardrossan Academicals Rugby Club. He was a powerful forward and was the first member of the club to play for Glasgow in the inter-city match. Jack Lambert also won fame as a boxer and in 1926 he took part in the Territorial Army championships in London, winning the officers' light-heavyweight title. His connection with the Territorial Army led to his being called up at the outbreak of the second World War and he served with the 4/5 Bn., Royal Scots Fusiliers. For a time he was stationed at Ardeer Factory, which brought him into contact with many of his friends in this district but latterly he served in France and was awarded the Territorial Decoration. He left the Army with the honorary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

Hi Irene.
Further to that, information from one of his family's researchers: Jack was the 4th son of John Lambert and Mary Dyet. In the 1901 census for Ardrossan, John and Mary were listed with 7 children at 87 Glasgow Street. John snr was a Master Plumber. Many of us living in the town in the 1950s would remember the plumber's shop across and down from the Park (now the Nazerene) Church in Glasgow Street.
