Weather in Scotland.

Post by gnyaff »

Apparently the worst storms in over 20 years are hitting Scotland at the moment. On the front page of the Scotsman today is the train going along the track at the back of Canal Street, Saltcoats with the waves breaking over the top of it.

Just read the report in The Scotsman too. Any chance of someone posting a copy of whatever report appears in The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald re- effect on Ardrossan - & thus hopefully give a more localised view of the effect on the three towns?

One thing for sure, with that sort of weather you couldn't go up the flagpole on South Beach via a bosun's chair to paint it as Dad had to do many years ago when working for Ardrossan Burgh.

G'day Hughie,
A used tae swim at the slabs tae ...

tae me it wis like Ayshires' 'Great Barrier Reef' The watter wis crystal clear an a' the millions o' wee coloured shells an' stanes , great memories pal ...
a widnae like tae dive in the day that photo wus taken' though ...
a think it wid be a case o' Harold Holt revisited ( noo ye see him , noo ye don't ) God Bless his soul!

It wis a dangerous place tae swim at times , but nae where near as dangerous as the Inches , or even Ardrossan Harbour , at the Lighthouse opposite Horse Island ... ( CONGA EELS! fur company )
a used tae get hunted oot the watter fur swimmin' in Ardrossan Harbour Dry Dock ... ( a few people got droont there! )
" Those were the days my friend, I wished they'd never end "
Thanks fur the memories Hughie ! .................
