Flora's Story - Ardeer Mystery Explosion

Post by Hughie »

This is my story of an event that happened to me during World War 1. I was 16 years old at the time and lived with my mother in a small town in Scotland [Saltcoats]. Being the eldest of 6 children – 4 brothers one sister – I decided to try and get into one of the munition factories...
Flora's Story should be of interest to all those from the three towns and surrounds. Read it here: https://www.threetowners.com/ardeer-fac ... ras-story/

Thanks to Reg Webber for his input. :)

Interesting read.

I did a date check using John Millar’s book “In the shadow of the dynamite”, appendix 4 lists the explosions resulting in fatalities/injuries and lists an incident on 30 July 1915, reported in the A&S Herald on 6 Aug 1915. There were 3 fatalities (males) and it was stated as “fire, followed by several explosions. Details restricted, war regulations.”

The A&S Herald article mentioned on this forum would align with the day after the explosion, however, the reported numbers of those injured are different from the book and no mention of fatalities.

I wonder if this was the actual date and the article had it changed for some reason.
