Thanks for all the details about where the A T May shops were.
But I'm still no further forward as to, were A T Mays taken over by Thomas Cook.

I was also extremely disgusted with the A&S Herald running an Ad for Sunday Brunch at the repulsive Donald Trump's restaurant at his Turnberry golf course. Most folk in the 3 towns couldn't afford to go there anyway, but no-one who isn't a racist scumbag should give him a penny.

John, did a bit of digging for you. In 1970/71 I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland in Dockhead Street and AT Mays had a strong connection at that branch. I remember Mr & Mrs Moffat and their son.

Royal Bank of Scotland bought AT Mays lock, stock and barrel in the late 1980’s. They sold it on in 1990 to an American travel company called Carlsons.

In the late 1990’s Carlsons and Thomas Cook merged their travel businesses which, I’m thinking, possibly meant all AT May’s shops were renamed Thomas Cook. I can't find any confirmation of that but it would kind of make sense because they were already known on UK the high streets.

That's been up for sale for about 10 years, I was told the gentleman who owns it ,owns other properties in Hamiltom Street (or did)
I believe the Crown is still up for sale.
As is the Victoria
The shop next to Cavani's is up for sale
I think the Windmill Street s/h furniture store is shut

The Stark's shop was Breckenridge's previously

Oor town was such a thriving holiday destination. Now it's a shell. I remember the 3 Movie houses (Regal, Countess and La Scala) and thriving shops with no closures. Seems to be no remedy as Supemarkets take over killing the wee shops and Pubs...much cheaper to drink at home.
Still love the place though...always be home :-)

TBH it would need to improve to be a shell,
The hill at Auchenharvie behind where the swimming pool sits, was once the sea bed, the tide returning to there would be an improvement

I've babbled on far too often about factors causing the demise of the area, that I'm boring myself,
Look at the old photographs, then imagine the images modernised but retrofied. Use New St Stevenston, Princes Street /Glasgow Street Ardrossan, Dockhead Street,Saltcoats.....take that Idea to other locations
No vision , the 3 towns idea via the councillors was destroy , "it'll be better for us", take what you will out of that!!!
