Auchenharvie miners token

Post by Hughie »

Thought I'd give a heads-up on this interesting and historical token relating to Auchenharvie Collery. This on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/283269427410
The coal token was used as scrip paid to miners when they successfully brought a load of coal to the surface. It contains the Cunninghame Family motto: " Cura et candore".

Hughie,

I have a box into which I've thrown a variety of coins over a long number of years. I just rummaged through it to confirm that I have one of these tokens. I must check the box more closely one of these days.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

I too have a box in the garage full of coins collected over the years. Lots of old pennies and other pre-decimal coins - must have a closer look.

There is another item by the same seller on ebay. This relates to Robert Reid Cuninghame of Auchenharvie.
