canny help thinking that the money spent on fire works at this time of year would be better spent on folk that dont have clean water to drink etc.at least the London homeless should get a wee heat for 14 mins

I have no problem with well organised firework displays in our towns and cities, & it’s also celebrating the new year, but what I do have a beef with is the morons who think it’s ok to let them off in schemes at 2am when decent folk are sleeping.

Seventy million euros went up in smoke here last night (NL). There is a growing movement here to ban the sale and use of fireworks for private use and to move to organised shows. There are always hundreds of injuries every year, mostly to eyes and hands or fingers. Yesterday there was one death. Usually there are several deaths over the holiday period.
There was some good news. Most of the fireworks last night were coloured flares in the sky. There was a big reduction in bangers. Don't think of bangers as what we knew as penny bangers when we were weans. These are illegal and smuggled over the border. They are reported to be more powerful than a hand grenade. The police confiscate tons (literally) every year. These are simply stored in garage lock-ups for sale on the black market. There could be one on your street.
Not a fan. JD.
