It took me more than 10 seconds to "get" that.

I remember the visits to Stevenston and Saltcoats prom with my mum + friend from school. Grand adventures back in the day. Stevenston changed its layout though, as I seem to remember a fence and steps you had to go down. Someone must have removed the steps ??

Never liked the sand as a kid. Still the same today.

Seriously the beach at Stevenston was so badly polluted that the local youths wouldn't enter the water. Instead they would go to the blue lagoon and we know what happened there. That place has now been filled in but it took a fatality for this to happen.

My father died on Glasgow Fair Monday 1963. There was a heatwave that year, and with his asthmatic problems he found it very difficult to breath during the terrific heat. He took an asthmatic attack in the evening and never recovered.

viv, here are a couple of maps showing the location of the blue lagoon, better known as the clayhole in my days.

First image is map view, and the second, satellite view, which shows it partly filled in.

It got filled in a few years ago. It was one of those places your parents told you to stay away from but you went anyway.

Neither do I, but Mum always took as to the pool on the shorefront. Perhaps she had a reason.
