The one between the road and the swimming pool we knew as the "Crab Pond", that was in the fifties - the 1950s. :wink:

was there not an old swimming pool behind the wall at Saltcoats Harbour? More or less behind The Victoria Hotel, which burned down a few years back.

There is a kind of pond behind what was the old hotel and is now the flats at Harbour Point.


Can't remember if it was ever used for swimming.

Thought it might have been for salt pans.

I came across some good information regarding the old salt pans being reused as outdoor bathing ponds in this post.

It also reminded me of the saltcoats “whirlpool” that we were always told to avoid.

Also attached is a link to an old OS map that shows the bathing pond across from the Saracen’s Head hotel, which I believe was previously known as the Osborne Hotel.
