Just told my SIL who is here on vacation and lives nearby the castle. Here's eight photos I took a few years ago at Kerlaw in this topic : http://www.threetowners.net/forum/viewt ... 497#p24497 it didn't get any comments.

What is sil? Yes. The tree was a gift in answer to your topic question.

Fast forward almost two months and nothing appears to have changed. The scaffold went up in March and I've yet to see anyone near the place since. Does anyone know what's happening or what the hold up is?

Half up more like it... the castle is in the care of n.a.c. so God help the place and all who sail in it.

Hi GEODGC, I'm not too sure what the issue is, but I suspect that the scaffolding was put up not just to physically restore the castle, but to help facilitate an initial structural survey. So if there's been a lack of workmen, then I'm guessing it's because some subtle survey work took place first of all...and is perhaps still taking place (for example, they might have installed sensors to investigate how the castle copes with wind load etc. and maybe moisture surveys need to be undetaken longitudinally over a period of several weeks). This is just a guess though.

You may be right Iain, who knows? There is no sign of any equipment at all though.
On another note; I had an interesting conversation with somebody on Facebook recently regarding Kerelaw Castle. They reckoned it was time to knock the castle down as it was an eyesore and a safety hazard . When I pointed out that it was centuries old and steeped in history I was told that everything moves on and something else should be built there. Shakes head in disbelief.

Unfortunately, GEODGC, too many people think like that, Stevenston lost some fine buildings. The public weren't consulted, of course.
