Have a look at my post on the previous page Morag. I tend to think the University of Glasgow may be spot on. The location seems to fit the description very well.

Re: PUN BRAE
Hello Little Plum.
My Robert wonders is mill Hill still called that. it was up the side
of the High Kirk coming out at the corner houses on the same
side as the church. My cousin George Mclelland's Granny Boyd
staid in one. I remember coming up it when I was wee and wondering
where we were coming out. I was surprised it came out at Mrs Boyd's. Ellen.

Hi Ellen, do you mean the lane that runs from Townhead to Glencairn St., I tend to refer to it as, going up the mill dam.

Re: PUN BRAE
The local historians at North Ayrshire have come up with
Pun Wrae means Chief's Fort and this refers to the hill on which the High Kirk Church now stands, which in the olden times was the stronghold of a chief. Stevenston does not have another site which was suitable for defence or in more modern times worship.

Bobbydarg,
Re your post of the 10th July.
I think you'll find that the cottages pictured are of the Brekkleshyuck or Breakplough, which runs from Lockhart Rd. to the Kerlaw road just beside Kerlaw Mains farm. The picture is taken facing towards the farm, with the photographer's back towards Lockhart Rd.
