Shipyard Red lead painters - C1956

Post by Hughie »

Can you help with the names in this photo, said to be red lead painters at Ardrossan Shipyard in the mid-1950s. Standing at the front on the left is Sam Guiney whose family I knew - they lived in Links Road in Saltcoats. Other possible names mentioned include Charlie Goldie, Willie McCrindle and Lindsay McEwan.

Pee Ess... there is a similar Shipyard photo around the same period in this topic

My Dad was a red lead painter I think he was retired in 56, just looking at that photo , looks like
three men in the front were the only ones that worked the rest looked to clean to be painters ...

I'm fairly sure that front row right is Charlie Goldie. He and his mother lived in the prefabs at the bottom of Barrie Terrace. At some stage, either before or after the shipyard, he joined the merchant navy. I remember him telling me about a trip to Japan.
