The name Ardeer was originally Ard-dyir.

Hahaya, well done and thanks.
I spent some time on google and got absolutely nowhere. I even checked out the Glasgow University site.
I can sleep happy tonight.
A contented JD.

Grew up with the notion 'Ardchoille' which was just up the road, meant high woods.

You're right Morag. High wood or woody height, which is also the war cry of the clan MacGregor.

Hi. There, Google Scottish Place Names......there are lots of towns beginning with Ard.....ie Ardrossan.....it usually means high cliffs near the sea but Ardeer in Scotland does not have cliffs, it could also mean near the mouth or joining of rivers. Good Luck
