Enjoy yourself in Hamburg. 8)
Well I was at a friend's wedding in Buxtehude on Friday and they brought round Zwiebelmett with the drinks, so I worked up the courage and tried it. What can I say? I really struggled to swallow it, to everyone's amusement  but having tried I definitely won't be rushing back for more.

From the above, I understand that this dish has raw meat in it. Zwiebel is onion.
What exacttly is the whole mixture?

I find that quite incredible.
Pork should always be served well-done for hygene/medical reasons.
I wouldn't touch that with a barge-pole. (Another one for the words we used thread)

That was brave of you, Bonzo. I've never managed to eat the stuff. 8)

JD, Mett is made and sold by probably every butcher in Germany and should be eaten the same day it was made. It's already seasoned so you only have to add the onions.
Another family favourite was Tatar (Steak Tartare) crowned, of course, with a raw egg yolk!

I have also never eaten steak tartare, purely from feeling.
The difference with pork is that pork carries a big risk of contracting the trichinosis worm, which in the worst case can kill you. Cooking it well kills the worms.
This is why the Jews have banned it, - with good reason.

Was watching and listening to 'Some enchanted evening', beautiful, I got a wee bit emotional  and it brought back an early memory, forgive me if I've posted this before Speaking of memory...duh! My parents took my big sis and me to see 'The Student Prince' think I was 4 or 5, this was quite a rare thing for us as with most folk back then, boys used to collect glass bottles to turn in for the cash back, to get to 'the pictures'. Anyway, apparently when we left I was crying my eyes out, when asked what was wrong 'He, sniff, sniff, didn't get her!' aw a wee romantic way back then even! Got us fish and chips at Reids, (another rarity) right close to the Grange was it? Comfort food :)

It’s wasp season here - lovely day out there and all my windows are firmly closed. Hate this time of the year. :(
