Hi Brian - Heathfield was a military airport during the war - spitfires were stationed there.

Wow - didn’t realise that either. When I first came to Ayr (about 25 years ago) Heathfield shopping centre actually had a model spitfire at the entrance - it was damaged during a storm 20 odd years ago.
