Is anyone able to advise which Unit/Corps which was stationed at the Army Base between Kilwinning and Irvine? ANY other info would be gratefully received, thanks.

Jim,
I think it was a Royal Army Ordnance Corps depot situated on the land of Eglinton Estate. The main gate, as I remember, was situated on Kilwinning Road, Irvine, just along from the "Central" hospital.
The following 'Eglinton Country Park' link also contains references to war time activity by the Commandos and others in the vicinity, including preparation for the Normandy and North Africa landings: -

Re: Army Base
Thanks all. I had a feeling it was transport-related. I well remember the main gate travelling by A1 buses to/from St Micks.
