WHAT'S YOUR NAME

Post by gnyaff »

Thought we could give this a try as the proverbs did very well.
How many of us have a surname and don't know its origins from the past.

Bowman was obviously and archer.

Butcher this one speaks for itself.

Fletcher was the title of an arrow maker.

How many more can we uncover?

Wee Boney

Morag, I know Armstrong has a big connection with the borders and reivers but I think the name itself will mean someone with strong arms.
And aye viv, Johnston also has a strong connection with the borders and reiving.

My big sis puzzled me by referring to my wee sis and her family as the Slybacon's...you got it, their surname was Cunningham. (sorry Hughie!) :P
