Does anybody know if the "Sabbath Law" referenced by the Minister was statute, or his take on "Divine law"?

A wee shout for Irvines- Daniel Tudhope currently neck to neck with Oisin Murphy for the Uk flat jockeys championship this year- both have ridden 80 + winners, i think this will go down to the wire, the bookies cant split them.

DEFORCING A SHERIFF OFFICER

At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday, JANET McMILLAN or PATON, wife of John Paton, labourer, Gateside Street, Largs, was charged with having, on the 5th instant, in her own home, deforced and assaulted Joseph McCulloch, Sheriff Officer, Ardrossan, and his assistant, James McLaren, blacksmith, Saltcoats, while in the execution of their duty in poinding Paton’s effects for 18s 8d of arrears of rates due to the burgh of Largs.

The woman it seems, had not only refused to allow the poinding, though warned of the consequences, but seized the assistant by the collar, pulling and dragging him.

She pleaded guilty, and was fined in £3 or 30 days’ imprisonment. Fine paid.

Took my Australian born family up the Abbey Tower a few years ago and looked down on the area where our family lived in the 1800s in Abbey Square. See photos below:

A RECENT RAILWAY ACCIDENT AT ST. ENOCH STATION

The report of Lieutenant-Colonel Yorke to the Board of Trade on a collision that occurred on 13th July at St. Enoch Station, Glasgow, was issued last night.

A train from Ardrossan was entering the station when it collided with some empty carriages. Two passengers and a guard were slightly injured, and some damage was done to the rolling stock.

Colonel Yorke says the blame for the collision rests on the driver of the first engine. Had he entered the station at hand-brake speed, and kept a proper look-out, he would have had no difficulty in stopping his train short of the empty carriages.

The driver of the second engine is not altogether free from blame, but he had arranged with the other driver that the latter should take charge of the brake.

The Countess of Eglinton died at Eglinton Castle last night at seven o’clock in her forty-sixth year. For some months past she did not enjoy robust health.

She took an active interest in the affairs of the Episcopal Chapel at Ardrossan, the foundation stone of which she laid about 12 years ago, and was a patroness of no end of charitable and other schemes of public usefulness in the county.

I have read the Burns in Irvine is up for sale. Great pub enjoyed it many moons ago and handy for the Kings across the road.
