Re: Ordnance survey map oddity
Also, who remembers the pylons that used to run up Sannox Drive and Ross Road in Saltcoats as show on the map?

Ordnance survey map oddity
Having a wee look at the old Ordnance Survey map of Saltcoats from 1960 in the link below, there appears to be two radio antennas just north of Saltcoats.Does anyone have any idea what these were? The Harris Of Saltcoats mast was further up than this location, beside Sharphill Cottage although I think ...

Re: Stevenston Water Works
Hi Vivc113 I'm really pleased you like the pictures. The remaining wall was indeed part of the waterworks. A wee look at the site on Google Earth suggests possibly that the filtration beds may still be in situ to some degree, but I may be wrong in this. It's quite hard to come by any information on wh...

Re: Sharphill Industrial Estate
Hi Hugie,Sharphill Industrial Estate was built in the fields just above Carrick Avenue at the top of the housing scheme. The field left in between the industrial estate and Carrick Avenue remained undeveloped until relatively recently when new houses were constructed there. The estate lies next to Dal...

Sharphill Industrial Estate
A wee picture of Sharphill Industrial Estate which must have been taken around 1981 on a little 110 camera. This would have been at least a couple of years at most after completion of the first stage of the site, and the buildings still looked rather new.The site was created by the then SDA Scottish D...

Montfode Fuel Depot
An original and cropped image taken in the very early 80's,probably 1981,showing a distant view of the Montfode Fuel Depot as seen from the top of Saltcoats. Some of the largest tanks on the site are visible embedded into the hill. The bulk of the site would still have been pretty much intact at this ...

Re: Stevenston Water Works
Thanks Michael.I used to enjoy some great walks up there many moons ago. It's a shame a fine building like that was demolished.Any idea when it was demolished?I'm guessing mid to late 80's.
